PG DEPARTMENT OF BIOINFORMATICS

The Department of Bioinformatics was established in 2006 with an Innovative UGC course of M. Sc. Bioinformatics followed by UGC sponsored (for five years) B. Sc. (Vocational) Bioinformatics as well as the Add-on Course in Bioinformatics. We recently started one year PG Diploma in Bioinformatics in the session 2022-23. It is worth mentioning that, our college is the only college under Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar to offer M. Sc. Bioinformatics, PG Diploma in Bioinformatics and such a variety of courses in Bioinformatics including short-term value added courses. Taking this as a challenge our Department has been playing an important role in Human Resource development in Bioinformatics in this region. Our Alumni are proudly working/pursuing higher study in NIH, USA, Soka University, Japan, Max Planck, Germany, Institute of Molecular Medicine, Finland, University College Cork, Ireland, University of Sarland, Germany, IIIT, New Delhi, PGI, Chandigarh, IISER Mohali, Oswal Cancer Hospital, Ludhiana, Persistent Systems, Pune, Gene Health Global, New Delhi, Genotypic Technologies, Bangalore, Datar Genetics Ltd., Nasik, Core Diagnostics Gurgaon etc. We are serving constantly in providing our expertise in Bioinformatics to a variety of researchers working in other institutes of this region to make their research more impactful. Our faculty is associated various International organizations such as Galaxy Project, APBioNET, Open Life Science and Bioclues for providing best opportunities to the students. Recently, Dr. Harpreet Singh, has been appointed as the Vice President, APBioNET. We have recently signed an MOU with University of Malaya, Malaysia to encourage International students as well as faculty exchange programmes and collaborative research projects. Our collaborative research has produced a number of high impact publications in prestigious journals including Nature Biotechnology.
