Language is a vital part of human connection. We need language to communicate ideas, feelings and thoughts, understanding culture. Language is not only a mode of communication between individuals but is also a way for the expression of their personality. This makes it imperative to master languages so as to bring a finer touch to all these processes and enhance communication.
HMV has well established departments of English, Punjabi, Hindi and Sanskrit where students have the choice of opting for undergraduate and post graduate courses. For this the state of art infrastructure consisting of language labs, smart class rooms, projectors is provided to the students. Besides this free ship is given to meritorious as well as needy students.
We have well qualified and competitive faculty with specialization in various fields of poetry, drama, fiction etc. and who are always anxious to give their best to the students. Students of Languages have left indelible marks on the sands of times by their achievements in the field of academics as well as extra-curricular activities at national and international levels.
Department of English has existed in a very active form since the time of inception of college in 1927. The members of the department are actively involved in teaching of all classes as English is taught as compulsory subject in all classes of Arts, Humanities, Science and commerce. English is taught as an Elective subject in Arts. The college is one of the few institutions to have honours in English. Masters in English, introduced in 2005, is also meant to equip students with an insightful knowledge of Language and literature. Department of English also teaches Communication Skills in M.Sc. Fashion Designing and all the professional classes.
Punjabi is an intercontinental language. It is not only a medium of communication but also the source of our heritage, religious, cultural and historical assets of the region. The department provides a base to understand the regional variants, different dialects and genre of Punjabi language along with its literature and grammar .It also provide a link to the rich cultural tradition of the state.
For over a century, Hindi has been weaving the fabric of India, a multilingual nation, becoming an integral part of the independence movement. Its role has grown even more prominent over the past fifty years. Hindi language creates a unified mode of communication that bridges diverse communities by facilitating cordial interaction and understanding among speakers. The Department of Hindi has been instrumental in promoting the use of Hindi, organizing workshops, seminars, and competitions, thereby significantly contributing to its widespread adoption and enrichment.
The Department is dedicated to promoting the Sanskrit language and imparting knowledge of the Vedas in an accessible and value-based educational format. With a primary focus on instilling strong values, the department consistently encourages students to learn Sanskrit, often referred to as the mother of all languages. Our students achieve outstanding results annually. Every Monday, students gain practical insights into Vedic practices through the performance of havanyajnas. The department regularly organizes workshops, seminars, and competitions throughout the year. Additionally, our well-equipped departmental library boasts the latest editions of books on the Sanskrit language, providing a rich resource for learning and research.
